Ukrainian Cheese Project

We’re thrilled to announce our latest cheese project, which holds a special place in our hearts.

In support of the People of Ukraine, we are bringing in two very unique cheeses, Ancient Kyiv & Ukrainian Cheese, arriving Tuesday April 16th 🇺🇦

We will be donating $3/kg of sales to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC), an organization that is making remarkable strides to assist the Ukrainian community.

Join us for 3 very special sampling dates where Joe Dal Ferro, President of Finica Food Specialties and chair of the International Cheese Council of Canada (ICCC), will be joining us to share their story & tell us all about these great cheeses.

Friday April 19th – Portage Location
Saturday April 20th & Sunday April 21st – South Landing Location

Read the Story Behind the Cheese
After hearing about the challenging and distressing story about running a cheese production facility on the fringe of a war zone, Finica Foods decided to do their part to support an allied country in need. They focused on 2 cheeses that would appeal to the Canadian of Ukrainian heritage and to the recent arrivals from the diaspora caused by conflict. They selected ANCIENT KYIV, an aged and slightly spiced full cow’s milk cheese & UKRAINIAN, a milder full cow’s milk table cheese great for snacking & sandwiches.
Though they planned to launch this project in Fall 2023, it was sadly postponed due to the inability to get the product out of the Ukraine. Once there was enough stability in the area in Feb 2024, they were able to secure production of the cheese.
The next challenge was finding a safe port of exit. The Black Sea was unsafe, so the decision was made to have the product moved via a security convoy to Poland. Diplomatic issue between Poland and Ukraine casued further delays at the border. Finally the product made it to the exit port of Gdansk, Poland for its journey to Canada.
These amazing cheeses are now here in Canada, and just arrived in Winnipeg this week for all of you to enjoy. Buying Ukrainian is a great way for Canadians to show thier support and we are so proud to have done our small part to support Ukraine.
Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦
